Samia "Honey" Tour at Scoot Inn (Austin)

March 7th, 2023

I have been a fan of Samia's since her debut album The Baby came out a few years ago. Unfortunately, each time she has toured near me or played at a festival I attended in the past, I could not make it work with my schedule to see her. When this tour was announced, I saw her Dallas date (which is significantly more convenient for me as it would be close to home) was on March 8th, the same day Inhaler were playing Dallas, and I already had a ticket to that show. I was bummed about it for a few months until I realized I would already be in Austin (to see Inhaler there on March 6th), so I bought me and my sister tickets to see her at Scoot Inn about a month and a half ago.

I love Samia. I think she is one of the sweetest, cutest people in the music industry, and she has a very authentic and genuine way of presenting herself that makes her a great entertainer as well. Her songwriting is something that has always stuck out to me personally. She has a way of putting a very unique spin on her perspectives and translating that into music very seamlessly, so her song lyrics are both relatable and strikingly powerful. I have been anticipating seeing her live for years now, and it was amazing! I had never been to Scoot Inn before because I am not local to the Austin area, but I thought it was adorable and the perfect place for her to perform. The weather was nice so I did not mind being outdoors, and the venue staff was wonderful, efficient, and helpful.

I met a lot of very cool people at this show as well. Samia has a very niche fanbase of people that I happen to fit right into, so I made fun, friendly conversation with everyone I encountered, which is something that does not occur for me a lot of places I go because I tend to be a little quieter in public spaces. This was a very comfortable environment and the fans were all very easy-going, so it was nice to attend a chill, relaxed concert for a change.

I got VIP tickets instead of regular general admission for this show. It came with a short Q&A with Samia, early entry to the venue, a tote bag, and a signed laminate. It was relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of other tickets I have bought recently, so I thought it was well worth the money. The Q&A portion of the show was very sweet and personal. Samia answered every person who raised their hands, and after answering each question she would ask one in return to the fan. I loved hearing each person in the crowd share something back to her, I thought it was so sweet and it felt very vulnerable and personal of her to do the Q&A so conversationally. She also took the time to take individual photos with each person who had a VIP ticket, and she came down into the crowd and talked to everyone individually, which was a nice surprise that was not included in the description of the VIP ticket. I loved getting to meet her.

We got there right when the VIP check-in started and we were front and center for the whole show. The opener was Tommy Lefroy, a band I have been really enjoying a lot lately, and they also hung around to meet fans during and after the show. They were just as good live as they are in the studio and they were the sweetest to me and my sister!

The Samia setlist was a lot of newer songs, which was fine by me because her Honey album has been on repeat
for me since it came out. I had such a fun time at the concert. She dances to almost all of her songs and she comes to sing to the people in the crowd, and I love to see artists who are so passionate about what they are doing. Samia is a great, lively performer with a genius mind and the kindest soul, and I'm really glad I was able to squeeze this show in between my Inhaler Texas dates. I know I made the right choice going to this! It was worth the late-night drive and the week of exhaustion. I love going to shows with my sister and I love seeing artists I have been following for so long, so this was a two-in-one for me in that regard. It was so much
fun and so good! I hope to see her again as soon as I can.
