Trousdale "The Road Trip!" Tour at House of Blues Cambridge Room (Dallas)
February 14th, 2023
This was my first time seeing Trousdale and probably my fourth or fifth time in the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues in Dallas, but I will say it may have been my favorite show there yet. I have always wanted to go to a show on a cute little holiday, so when these tour dates were released, I was so excited to get to go on Valentine's Day! I went with two of my sisters and two of my friends and this was the perfect way to spend my day.
I have been to the House of Blues in Dallas countless times before (and I will go countless more times in my life), but the Cambridge Room always feels like an added bonus each time I get to go. The maximum capacity is only 250, so the room is small, making all of the shows feel more intimate. I have seen several different artists that would fall under pretty different genres in this specific room before, including Chase Atlantic, Zella Day, and LANY, but I thought the venue definitely suited an artist like Trousdale the best. Both Trousdale and their opener, Sophie Holohan, have a soothing, acoustic vibe to their music, and the size of the venue definitely heightened the experience because of how close everyone in the crowd was able to be to the stage. The venue does offer fast lane passes, allowing purchasers to skip the line and be allowed into the venue first, which was something me and my sisters chose to do. Though we were the first to enter the venue, I am not entirely sure it was worth the $20, because we probably would have been in the front row with or without the pass simply by arriving 30 minutes before the doors opened. This was definitely a casual, chill crowd, and there weren't any campers or crazy fans who were there too early. While I do think the fast lane pass is generally a good investment, I just don't think it was necessary for this concert in particular.
The crowd was pretty small, and everyone was dressed super cutely. There were several people wearing jumpsuits, which Trousdale themselves used to tour in, and I always love seeing fans get into the event through their outfits. I also noticed a lot of reds and pinks for Valentine's Day, which was more the direction I chose to go with my outfit. I wore a red and white striped halter dress with a brown leather jacket and my red cowboy boots, and I was rather comfortable and within the general vibe of the rest of the audience.
The show itself was amazing! I have not ever seen Trousdale before, so I was highly anticipating this show, and it met all of my expectations. The girls themselves are adorable and all incredibly stylish and talented. I have followed them all on social media for a while now, and it was wonderful to finally see them in person. They sound exactly like the studio recordings of their songs, which is something I still find myself always so impressed by, and I love that their touring band members are Lauren and Quinn's boyfriends. I think that's so sweet! They played a good mix of older, more popular music and unreleased music from their upcoming album. I typically prefer for artists to play released music when I see them live because I love to sing along to the songs, but I thought the unreleased tracks were amazing and placed into the setlist well, so I did not mind them being mixed in. Trousdale are performers who are meant to be heard, so I really found myself enjoying just listening to them sing and play together regardless of what songs they played. I think I would have been happy to hear anything they chose to play! The girls hung around after the show to meet each and every person in the crowd. My group of friends happened to be the very last people to approach, at about 11 p.m., but Georgia, Lauren, and Quinn were all still very energized and friendly with us. We had a nice, long, engaging conversation with them and got several rounds of group photos, and I know all of my friends left the venue super satisfied with the interaction. They were some of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever met after a concert. It was evident both on and off stage that they have a lot of love for one another and for what they do, and that came across very strongly when watching them interact with fans as well. I would definitely recommend hanging around after the show if you are able. They also had a tour scrapbook at the merch table for the crowd to sign, and a box of love notes from the show before ours (which happened to be Austin). They instructed each person in the crowd to write a love note to put in the box, and to take a love note out of the previous box to keep. I haven't ever seen something quite like that at a show and I thought it was very personal and cute! Definitely good for memory-making!
Being in the front row without being squished is an incredibly rare occurrence for me, so props to the crowd for being so kind and enjoyable as well! I didn't really encounter much of the venue staff this time around, but they were efficient in getting everyone inside and did not pressure us to leave after the show was over when we were still meeting the band, so I appreciated that.Overall the concert was amazing and I can't wait for the day I get to see them again!
